Not to be mistaken as valves, but they fufil a similar purpose of letting in fuel but not letting it out while dispersing it for proper combustion. The stock ones are metal, you definitely want to replace, helped me a lot on mine after i finally figured out my crank seal was broken. Anyways you have to take the jug off to do that, there are six bolts, buy a manual, will be worth it if you work on it yourself. And taking the jug off you will need new head gasket. Total cost is about $60 if you do it yourself. Boysen makes the reeds.

Well you need compression, spark, and fuel, so try and clean carburetor. Also look for a rebuild kit, they are like $20. And DO NOT let the gaskets soak in the carb cleaner, it is bad for them. When you are checking your carb make sure fuel gets to the bowl, than go from there. The bowl is the bottom part of the carb. Inevitably ou have to take it off and make sure you connect the airbox back to it before starting, it will run to lean otherwise. Good luck let me know how it goes.
