Default LED Lighting from a Magneto/Coil

Looked all over the internet for an answer and couldn't find anything about running an LED's from a coil. What I wanted to know was if I could hook up LED's to my coil/magneto on my 87 LT250R????? Anybody tried this or know how to make it work if it is possible...or is it just plug and go with no problems? Thanks

I'll try.
I think the LT250R's came with a light. If so, your LED lights should be able to be plugged into the charge circiut wire that comes from the stator.
I don't think plugging the LED's into the coil side of the stator will work cuz there is no regulator.

Talked to a guy that had a blaster with 2 LED's hooked up. He said as long as you don't exceed the wattage capacity then you should be good. He couldn't run his stock light b/c his lighting coil didn't produce enough watts. Could maybe upgrade my coil, if needed to get what I want...but don't think I will. Will have to double check how much wattage she puts out, should be in the book.

I figured it out with my reply.....

LED's use a iota of current compared to regular lights.
You should be able to run a LED spotlight. LOL.

LED lights are polarity sensitive, you have to wire them the right way round. Coils for lighting only were made for incandescent lamps which work fine on AC current so most coils fed AC to the lights. A heavy duty diode in the circuit would convert the AC to DC. LED lamps use a lot less power than incandescent ones, that is why cyclists were amongst the first to use them.
