1986 SUZUKI LT 230 won't start
We recently got a 1986 SUZUKI LT 230. has run gr8. hubby took it hunting, brought it home, ran it around for a while, all was fine, since then it will not start. Will not fire. Nothing, changed the plug, everything looks fine. You can jumb kick it all day and nothing, before this it always fired in 1 or 2 kick starts.
Will not even start on a down hill roll.
HELP, not sure what has happened.
Hubby ordered a manuel on ebay, should be here next week.
any ideas, tips, would be wonderful.
thanks,

Are you sure it doesn't spark at all? Maybe a carb problem? The spark can be hard to see sometimes.
If you have an ohm meter, you can check all the coils...
Ignition coil: Primary: 0-2 ohms, Secondary: 10-25k ohms
Magneto: Pickup coil: 100-200 ohms, Power coil: 150-350 ohms, Lighting coil: 0-2 ohms.
If all those pass, its probably the cdi.

You need to know if its a fuel problem, or spark problem.
I had an old suzuki LT250 that would do something similar. It would run for a few minutes until it got hot then stop working. I discovered by accident that the CDI was shorting out internally. Replaced it and it ran fine after that. But, when it acted up I would check all the other wiring connections and still had zero spark. Some snow accidently fell onto the CDI and after it melted and cooled it it ran fine.
I had already emilinated the kill switch, Neutral relay, and the coil and checked the fuel flow.

Mubboy,
It was just easier for me to take it in the shorts and order it from the dealer. After the fact I found a place in Canada that rebuilds CDI's and you might check and see if Moose or one of the newer aftermarket CDI companies make one for your machine. But $238 is not bad.
Later I opened up my old CDI and found a corner of it fried and black. I also discovered it had been leaking moisture into the case.
kclMarshall has some things he should check before he starts replacing expensive things like the CDI though.
