Default 2006 Polaris predator 500

I got a new battery for my quad and it ran for about 100 yards then stalled. I tried to start it back up the starter is turning fast as it should but the engine will not start for more than a half a second. It will start for maybe a half second then as soon as I take my finger off the start button it dies. Anyone know what might be wrong?

Google this problem and you'll find a lot of different brand of machines have had the same problem. For most it came down to being the battery itself not being fully charged to provide enough voltage for the ignition, or the start button on the left control switch was dirty not making good contact. You can also isolate the kill circuit from the ignition switch and left control switch by pulling the black wire from the cdi module. If it runs ok,the problem can be in the ignition switch or left control switch wiring or an internal problem on the cdi kill circuit iself.

I don't think I charged the battery enough before I installed it. I have it on a trickle charger at 1.5 apps it's been charging for a good 4 hours now. I will see what happens

Do the predators have an oil sensor that keeps it from starting if it is low on oil? It is at the "ADD 8 OUNCES" line I am wondering if that is the cause.

No oil sensor that applies to ignition..Check that you have spark. Just ground the plug to the cylinder. If you don't have,go through the steps I mentioned above.Plus make sure you only have 1/8" slack at the thumb throttle.Too much and the etc contacts will touch and it won't crank. If it gets into an ignition related problem the manual can help you narrow it down.2006 Polaris Predator 500 Service Manual PDF Download

If the engine isn't turning over fast enough then yes it could be starter clutch related. Have the battery fully charged, again a good load test can tell if it can handle the load also. Here's a good site on batteries and how to tell if they're good or not.https://www.batterystuff.com/blog/ho...ry-is-bad.html

If the engine is turning over with the starter the one way clutch should be fine.Do the tests I mentioned earlier on pulling the black wire from the cdi. If this doesn't help then down load the manual I linked to as it has better trouble shooting guides and tests. No sense in guessing when you can at least have a guide to help narrow down problems.
