2008 2 day old YFZ450 Dying
ok so i just bought a braNd new yfz450 and after riding for about 2 hours it died in middle of third gear and couldnt get it started so towed it back. i then took it to yamaha and they said nothing is wrong with the bike becuase it started up for them. so i went riding again this weekend and it did the same thing. i let it sit over night and it started right up i the morning. also when the bike is dying it is making some weird noises alot of back firing thru exhaust and almost a pinging noise. i called a different yamaha dealership and they said yamaha sent out a recall for new jets. any input would be greatful.
Thanks in Advance

first of all what need to happen is you need to richen the jets...the popping sound is do to a lean mixture which is bad for your engine...yamahas or horribly jetted from the factory...and as far as the dying..its called a flame out...im not sure exactly what causes it, but it happeneds alot on high performance 4 strokes. And as far as getting it restarted after a flame out, use the hot start and DO NOT PUMP THE THROTTLE!!! if you need to pump the throttle twice before the crank..it should start otherwise check the hotstart connection to the carb...sometimes they wiggle loose and do not engage when you twist/pull it. hope this helped a bit

lol... uh... couple things...
1. The jets aren't always wrong from the factory... It just depends on where you're at.
2. the yfz doesn't have a hot start...
You should probably read everyone's response before ya post...

Damn you guys hit that right in the tee. i just picked up the quad a few minutes ago and they said they found the vent hose kinked in the handle bar clamp. we will see this weekend how she runs.

You should think about getting a gas cap stinger... Keeps ya from having this problem... It's a great $7 part...

Those stingers are really handy. Especially if you take the cap off and put the vent tube in up in the handle bars where it won't get torn or kinked while you work on changing the spark plugs.
Then when you put it all together and you spend 10 minutes trying to find where you put the dang thing.
Yep, had me one ordered the next day after that.
