06 KODIAK DIFF lock problem
Just brought my 06 kodiak 450 out of storage after a 2 year sleep. When in 2wd the display says DIFF lock is on. Rev limiter kicks in when riding. I can hold down the override button on the hand controls but dont know where the problem lies. I switch from 4wd to 2wd and press diff lock button but changes nothing. Can anyone help?

Firstly, find out if the diff lock is on or off. You could probably feel if it is on by stiff steering but to be sure, jack the front wheels up with 4WD engaged and turn one wheel by hand, it will be stiff, but the other wheel should turn backwards. If it does, engage 2WD and the front wheels should spin the same way easily. If everything works except the lights on the dash don't alter, your fault is in the switch on the diff or the wires to it. Old, pre-diff lock, Kodiaks had a simple plunger switch sticking out the back of the diff which powered a relay under the seat to work the 4WD light, don't know what the later one has.

If you do not want to jack it up, you now the diff lock works if the steering is much harder then in 2wd or 4wd. To check 4wd just nose up to a strong tree or wall on dirt ground and give it gas and see if one of the front wheels is turning or trying to. 2wd the rear will just dig two ruts rather easy.
Faster and no jacks to screw with.

If its not going into 4wd you can look into this post https://atvconnection.com/forums/yam...cheap-fix.html.

Whether or not the diff is actually locked is yet to be determined
The indicator lights can get funky. Sometimes my 4wd will not go out for 5 mimuites after I switched back to 2wd and this is my second Yamaha 4x4 that did that so I just though it normal.
I put it in diff lock a few times and the light sometimes did not come on but just by the hard steering I sure could tell the lockers were working ok, sure do not need a indicator light to tell me if I'm in diff lock or not.
