Review: 2025 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Northstar Ultimate Edition Take Two

We remember you!
In an ATVC first, somehow the same Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Northstar Edition we tested here ended up finding its way back to our offices one year and several thousand miles older. The agency keeping track of the whereabouts of countless ATVs and SxSs was, of course, apologetic for the mishap but the situation left us with a very interesting conundrum – what do we do with it for the few weeks of its return visit?
We could go through the effort of a feature review but it would read no different from the first one we conducted (link above). Keep in mind, this isn’t just the same make & model situation, it is literally the same machine / VIN number etc.

We could attempt a long-term report on things like reliability but honestly, we have no way of knowing what it’s been through this past year or what maintenance has been performed. What we can say with certainty is that the machine, now showing over 3,000 miles on the clock, still fires up like new, purrs at idle and feels every bit as smooth as it did when we tested it the first time.
Odd Conditions
The unit arrived to us during a very strange period of late winter where it was 70 degrees over the weekend and 17 on Monday with 74mph gusts / whiteout conditions and nearly a foot of accumulation. A few days after that we were back into the 50s. HVAC this time of year isn’t just a luxury, it is a borderline necessity.

Brand new, this RANGER 1000 Ultimate was $34,000, making it one of Polaris’s more affordable entries into the fully enclosed cab / climate controlled UTVs at the time but since then, Polaris has announced some really good news for riders looking to get all the benefits of an enclosed / HVAC RANGER for even less scratch. The 2026 RANGER 1000 CAB and 2027 RANGER XP 1000 CAB manage to take everything we love about this XP 1000 Northstar and somehow bring the MSRP way down.
2026 RANGER 1000 CAB

2027 RANGER XP 1000 CAB
The new RANGER XP 1000 CAB is available in a three-seat or CREW, and comes equipped with a factory-installed enclosed cab with heating and air conditioning to comfortably ride in all seasons. Features include:
A factory-installed enclosed cab with a fixed glass windshield and powered front windows to ride more comfortably in rain, dust or snow.
Factory-installed heating and air conditioning to control the climate for all-season comfort. For quick relief on hot days, a variable AC compressor automatically varies its pumping capacity to deliver faster cooling and lower temperatures, even when at idle and low engine rpms.
A 82-horsepower ProStar engine and a three-position throttle control with different drive modes allow the driver to stay smooth and controlled for enhanced capability.
29-inch, eight-ply Pro Armor X Terrain tires with a new innovative variable tread design reduces perceived noises for a pleasant cab experience. The eight-ply rating provides puncture resistance in rugged terrain and the 14-inch ground clearance clears obstacles with confidence.
1,000-pound box and 2,500-pound towing capacity to carry more in fewer trips.
RANGER XP 1000 CAB is backed by a one-year warranty, and available in Avalanche Gray. Pricing starts at $24,499
Both of these new RANGER models are shipping now and we’ll be sure to get a feature review as soon as we log some time behind the wheel. In the meantime – how did it feel to log a few more miles in on the 2025 RANGER XP 1000 Northstar Ultimate Edition? Like coming home to an old friend.

The Polaris RANGER is the top selling SxS line in the world and every time we climb in one, we remember why this is. They are comfortable, roomy, smooth in action and very capable. They are perhaps most comfortable on the farm, the ranch or the work site but with each new iteration, become more and more trail ready.

This Northstar Ultimate was used almost exclusively for trail detail this time around and, in case the above weather report didn’t clue you in, through some pretty nasty conditions. The 82 horse Northstar RANGER is an absolute traction hound – often punching its way through nearly a foot of fresh snow with so little wheelspin as to provide perfect footprints from the PRO ARMOR X-TERRAIN tires after.

RIDE COMMAND+ is always one of those luxuries that makes every other vehicle we test feel base-model by comparison. And while most every other SxS we test makes the user have to choose between 2 or 4 seats, the RANGER’s standard 3-seat model is nothing short of excellent use of internal space.

All in all, it was a great visit with a machine we enjoyed greatly initially and an impressive show of reliability given how new it still felt in action. More than anything, though, it made us really appreciate what Polaris has managed to accomplish with the new CAB models. As soon as we can get a hold of one, we’ll be putting it through all the paces so stay tuned.
