Yamoto 150 carburetor
#13
Yesterday the wife and I did some riding in Oregon, Il. We were out riding for about two hours with the temp in the 20s. The yamoto 150 ran well the whole time, the gas cap seems to have been the problem. The wife did complain about the front shocks and I have already procurred some replacements.

I know this will not help you right now! But right after the holidays we are working on other carbs for these units. I have tested some but have not had a chance to do all of the testing needed to recommend another one. I do not like the whole electric coke thing. I am hoping to get a manual choke carb that will work on these units. If you have tested everything else and think it your carb I will have a suggestion for you right after the holidays when I have a little more time to play around with it!

Well my brand new Yamato 150 (xmas gift for 10 & 13 year old kids), did not run on christmas day, (it started, ran for 15 seconds, started a second time ran for 5 seconds, and that was the end of it, it woul d not start after that!). Two hours of srewing around later, packed it in. ( It was around 34 degrees out.)
Next day same thing! A couple of degrees warmer (37) and it ran for about 45 seconds on the first start up, than 20 seconds on the second start, then I resorted to starting fluid, that would get it started and I would need to use the throttle excessively to keep it running...the carb was heavily bogged down, it will not idle by itself, needless to say.. 2..days gone , no ATV riding yet.
Help.. Dad and Kids are bummin!

12/29/04: Update; Patriot advised to check the jet diaphram on top of the carb, many of these get "seated" during fabrication and need to be "freed" up by tapping on this cover, or opening the top and unseating it with you hand, mine was in fact "seated" This was not the only problem, Patriot also advised in a very small percentage of new units, the needle jet is installed without a hole in it..and lucky me..I have one of thise units. Patriot is trying to track down a new needle jet for me ..I find it a bit odd they do not have the part on hand to ship out, needless to say I will keep the site posted once I receive the jet and install it.
Does anyone have any contact info on any other Yamoto parts dealers???

Well, how did things go with Patriot, is your carb fixed? I just became a dealer and have just ordered 9 of the 150 models, site unseen, going by faith haha. How well do you make out w/o reverse? I had already ordered them, before I realized that was not an option. ASSUMED, reverse was standard on a unit of this size. SO, I hope they are OK. Thanks, keep me posted.

It was suprisingly warm here yesterday...almost 50 degrees. The kid wanted to take the 150 out to ride. Same thing happened as when its cold. After a dozen or so start attempts, I was finally able to keep it running. Once warm it ran pretty strong, however I noticed that when letting out of a higher rev run, it would die most every time.
John, have you found a replacement carburetor with a manual choke that works yet?
Does anybody have any thoughts/recommendations?
Thanks

I have a 150 and mine will not start if it's under about 50 degrees. Seems like a choke issue. I completely took the carb apart and cleaned it. Still not starting. Now when I can get it started it seems like the throttle limiter is on or something. It runs smooth but much slower. Trying to get a replacement.

Hi guys,
Dont know if this will help, but the Yamoto 125, 150 and 200 motorcycles have carbs with the manual choke. My son has a 125 and I have a 200, and we have never had any problems. Very little if any choking need when the temp outside is warm. We have added K&N and didnt even have to re jet, just adjusted the throttle linkage up a bit and they work fine. I dont know about the ATV's but youd think the carbs might be compatible?? Definately first thing is to check the vent in the gas cap, have heard several folks discovering this was a problem.
