i have a 110cc taotao that i just replaced piston rings and topend gaskets, also replaced clutch plates, also rebuilt carb. problem is it starts but will not stay running, please help and thanks in advanced!

How come the rebuild? Seems like an awfully young engine to need a rebuild. Anyway.. given it does start and idle I presume? I'd suspect a carburetor issue. Plugged jet or some type of fuel starvation issue.

hey thanks for the reply, but previous owner rode it hard, tore up the clutch and when i got it it smoked really bad thats why i rebuilt it. but it starts at full choke but then shuts off when i take the choke off, its like it gets to much air and not enough gas. i have another atv that is exactly the same and switch carbs and still does the same thing.

I was thinking vacuum leak as well. I've never a vacuum leak yet, but I've read in numerous places that the way to test for this is to spray carburetor cleaner in and around the intake manifold area while the engine is running. Any change in the engine speed indicates a leak.

if i spray wd40 will that do the same cause i have sprayed it all around and has not changed anything and i also didnt do any adjustments to the valves i left them alone.
thanks again.
thanks again.

I really don't know, but I would guess the WD-40 experiment wouldn't work very well. The idea behind spraying carburetor cleaner is to see if it gets sucked into the engine where it shouldn't. Carburetor cleaner burns (it is extremely flammable), and that changes the air/fuel ratio. That changes the engine speed, etcetera.
WD-40 doesn't burn so I wouldn't think it would change the air/fuel ratio that much - it would just be adding some gunk to it. I don't know what effect that would have.
