hello all:
i bought 2 new hi bird quads for my boys' christmas. just started messing with them yesterday. here is my scenario; i bought them already assembled and unfortunately didnt look them over good. the dealership is now closed til spring (how convenient), didnt know that until recently. i put gas in the hi bird 150 and gas starting coming out, looked over it and i have 4 hoses that have an end unattached ! crazy huh ! i will be working out of town so just trying to get them figured out asap so that maybe they caN FINALLY RIDE NEXT WEEKEND.
I HAVE POSTED PICS BUT NOT SURE IF THEY WILL SHOW UP ON THE CLICKABLE LINK OR NOT. if not, anyone with knowledge of this can you please email me for the pics at rondrake@insightbb.com ? also, this may sound crazy, but what the heck is the stem for on handle near the front brake handle?
thanks in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated ! thanks again

The place you bought from set these up? I never heard of a setup that didn't include a run-in. These are great engines BTW and you came to the right forum for sure.
You can always try a search for "GY6" on this site or elsewhere for lots of good info on these engines and their fuel systems.
The following pic is the carb bowl vent. This hose is just routed downward, clear of anything hot:

This hose with the fuel filter should be the fuel supply, going to the inlet on the fuel pump:

I *think* this one is the crankcase vent (breather) and will either just dangle or be plumbed into the air cleaner (My Taotao 110 goes to a stub on the end of the cone air filter):

I believe this one supplies vacuum/pulse to the fuel pump and DAMN those are some UGLY Chinese welds. Looks like they used tooth paste:

thanks man !!! ok did some more looking around.
I found that the "fuel inlet" on carb had no hose to it, so connected the one that is coming from the inline filter to it. found that there is a line on top (vacuum ) i'm sure,is connected to nothing coming from the top down and around. in this pic once i connected the main fuel line i tried to start then gas came flowing out of the black hose with the tapered end in the pic ! ughhhh this is crazy. i'm starting to think i'm missing a "T" here or something.
anyone know where the fuel pump is at on this thing? about ready to take all plastic off so i can see everything !
thanks much guys !

There's no fuel pump. Fuel is gravity fed to the carburetor.
In OneTenCC's post with the four pic's:
I agree with the comments for pictures one and two.
In picture three it is definately a crankcase breather. My 150cc GY6 quad just has this hose dangling.
Picture 4 is also a breather from the valve cover. It just dangles as well.
I also second what OneTenCC said about the GY6 engine on your quad. They are great engines. Mine has over 2000 miles on it with nothing on it gone wrong. Note that I'm talking about the engine - not chains, suspension stuff, brakes, wiring etc. Those items have all needed attention from time to time, but the engine has been rock solid.
There are full blown engine service manuals on the internet for GY6 engines that you can download for free. Most are for buggies or scooters, but the engine is identical. There are a lot less places providing this info these days. I would download them while you can.

Ah! I guess it wouldn't given the hi-mounted fuel tank on a quad. It must be just the GY6 powered scooters that use the vac/pulse fuel pumps because of the orientation of the tank?

hmmmm interesting guys. what still has me really stumped though is that after connecting the main fuel line to the inlet of the carb, gas came running out of the short black tapered hose near the top of the carb ! any ideas there?

I don't know if your carburetor is the same as mine. Not am I an expert on carburetors since I've never taken mine apart (though I did take my neighbors carburetor apart a year or so ago). I don't have any hoses near the top. I have a short 2 inch elbow hose on the left side that exits the carburetor about half way up. I think this is the vent and/or overflow hose. On the right side about half way up is a hose that loops over to the intake manifold.
I wonder if you have gas coming out the vent/overflow hose? If so your needle valve is stuck open. You may have to remove and take apart the carburetor and clean out the needle and seat valve. My neighbor had gas coming out of this tube when his needle seat valve got crud in it. In addition he filled his crankcase with gas, and had it dripping out the airbox as well.

ok,thanks for all the input guys. here is where i am now. have taken carb apart and cleaned a few times now and that fixed the fuel coming out of the top black angled hose.has never fully ran yet, just sputtered a few times almost idling but then thats it. it has the electric/automatic choke, are these commonly known to be bad from the factory? how about kill switch being bad? from my little experience with small engines, almost seems like it needs choked and it will start, not sure though. i know my boy is dying to ride his new atv though !. thanks again guys
