Well, what switches do is connect or disconnect wires. Since you connected the wires manually and it works then the ignition switches are bad, or the wires to the ignition switch are bad (but those wires would need to have been bypassed when you did you rewiring).
As a verification I would ohm out the ignition switch(es) you have with your meter (as per the previous post). If this too verifies that the switch(es) aren't working as it should then you have a bad series of switches.

Hey Lynn , I ran a new red wire from the fuse in the electrical compartment to the ignition switch and this fixed my problem cut all the wire loom off to do a good inspection , and found were previous owner had spliced wire together poorly and was not a good connection so I cut out that entire wire and replaced . Thanks for all the help , you guys a great

I have a Twister Kart and I ty to start it.Motor turns over but there is no spark to plug.
I have changed the battery and put in a new plug....Please help. Present for kids,and they are getting really inpatient,so am I.Where do we start?Anyone else had this problem

so you took the plug out and inserted the coil wire over the plug, grounded the plug to the jug/cylinder and cranked the engine. is that how you tested for spark? check all of your wiring connections to/from the coil/cdi. let's verify all connections then we'll move on to testing.

Yes, definitely verify you are doing the spark test correctly as Jaster94 already posted.
