sla-109 engine hot
#1
I just got my daughters quad up and running after sitting for some time. I cleaned the carb and the float and all jets, put a new fuel filter in and a new battery. It took some time to get it going and now with me sitting on it and both brakes applied its creeping and running hard. I tried adjusting the the screw with the spring on it for the idle and it backed it down some but still have to keep the brakes on real good or it will take off. The engine is getting very hot and when I went to take a look at the oil level the twist cap burned my fingers to the touch. I got the cap off and the level seems fine its almost to under the H on the dip stick and smoke is coming out of the oil opening once opened. The engine is very hot I can not let my child ride this. If anyone knows whats is going on please advise on what to do and I am not a mechanic so I am trying this on my own.

Welcome to the forum scottybz!
Something isnt right in the carb.. did you remove all the jets and the fuel screw for the cleaning?
Could try some Sea Foam.. http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...b-rebuild.html
As for why its getting hot.. its idling high and the clutch is partially engaged and its not moving.. lots of friction from the clutch slipping(while your holding the brakes)..friction makes heat..once you get it running good you might want to change the oil..

I had put master craft synthetic in it last summer and it never made it over 2 hours riding time last year when we got it. I will try changing the oil just to be sure. I did take all the jets out and cleaned them with carb cleaner and a guitar string and a cloth and did the float and the inside of the carb when I cleaned it a few days ago. I have tried since writing the post the first time to let it warm up really good with choke closed and opened it up and let it run while I tried to adjust the screw with the spring. Still no change in the pull this atv has with both brakes applied or the sound. It got so hot I just turned it off and came in here to see if anyone had any ideas. Thank for the reply and the help.
