Default is this ring terminal a ground?

Hi. Can someone tell me if this ring terminal is a ground. I thought it was power for accessories but when I hooked it to the positive terminal of the battery bad things happened. It is the brass color ring terminal in the photo that has the thin black wire.
If it is not a ground can someone tell me where it goes to?

I am trying to sell this quad in order to buy my daughter a moped and I want to get it before winter sets in.

thanks for any help.

I'd trace the wires down and see where it goes. I don't think you'll cause any damage by trying it as a ground.

I would start by checking continuity to the green wires and the frame ground. Anything more than a couple of ohms and it is going thru somekind of load. Then I would hook up all the other wires and check DC voltage on it to frame ground. If it shows voltage, hooking it up to the ground may cause a dead short and bad things. Then check DC voltage from it to the red wires at the battery (with the key on). Try not to let the smoke out of the box! Never good and hard to get back in! These checks should tell you if it is a ground or load. Hope this helps some.

I agree with Koopa and DennyRoark. It is most likely a ground - but definately see where it goes.

Also, any wire other than the fat wire to the starter solenoid that ties to the positive battery post must be fused. Having unfused skinny power wires is a fire hazard. If this is part of the factory wiring then it must be a ground wire since even the chinese wouldn't be dumb enough to wire up unfused power circuitry.

It's a positive cable.
