Default Stumped on starting

Have fixed a few thx to folks here bit kinda stumped on this one.
It's a TaoTao 110.
Solenoid clicks but starter doesn't try and crank.
I replaced starter still same.
12v on one side solenoid none on other; when cranking 6v.
Checked voltage at starter 6v when cranking.
Tried disconnecting lead from solenoid direct to battery same thing no crank and read approx 6v.
Ideas????
Oh and battery was fully charged over 12v each time.

That is the key phrase. You wired you starter motor directly to the battery (bypassing the solenoid completely) and the battery voltage dropped to 6 volts. Right?

If so your battery is bad, or it is discharged, or your starter motor is shorted and pulling down the "good" battery. But you changed the starter, and if your now 'two' bad starters were pulling down a good battery you would also notice the starter cables getting hot - which you didn't report. So all indicators so far are pointing at your battery.

Try jumping your quad battery to your car (using extra care to get the polarity right). Does the starter turn now? If so then this is yet another indication that your battery is bad or discharged.

But I bet you measured this voltage on the battery terminals while just sitting there without the heavy load of the starter applied. If so this is a meaningless measurement. You must measure the battery voltage while loaded down with the starter to get any useful info about load capability.

Thanks for the reply. I figured out what the deal was. I went ahead and pulled off the side engine cover. The chain was still on the starter sprocket, but had com off the lower sprocket and was lodged not allowing the starter motor to turn. Re-seated chain, and was able to get it cranked. Now a different issue. It ran good that day. Next day went to crank and nothing! Back to the troubleshooting.

Its great you got it running, albeit briefly. Thanks for reporting back. Its bound to help someone else down the line.

Let us know what you find on the second issue. Have you checked to make sure your brake switch is working? Check to see if the brake light is on when you apply the brakes. You need that before the quad starter will crank...
