Yamoto engine transplant
#1
Hi all -
We have a Yamoto 70 automatic. It's served us well, but we managed to strip the output shaft on the motor. Rather than tear it down to replace the shaft, I bought a new 110 clone to replace it. It went in fine and runs great.
However - the thing winds out really quick and has hardly any top end speed. I'm curious about the transmission in these things. It appears that there is a gear set (no cvt belt). Does anyone know if the gearing can be changed to allow for a little more speed. It's not so much that I'm looking for more speed, but as high as this thing is constantly revving - I can't think that it's going to last long.
So, does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks,
Steve

I should have caught that from your first post.. I dont think you can change any gears.. but i could be wrong.. Only thing you could do is use tires with a larger outside diameter.. that would be like higher gearing.

Hey - that's true. Had thought of putting on larger tires anyway - just for stability. We're probably going to pick up a Wolverine 350 or 250ex for this kid anyway, but would like to keep the Yamoto around for the younger daughter - and a spare for friends. Don't want to put much more effort or money into it, but sometimes it's just fun to tinker. With all the bikes you have listed, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Maybe add some wheel spacers while your at it.. does this have 4 lug or 3 lug rims?
I struggle with selling old toys.. its 1/2 addictive personality and 1/2 moderation problem...but it keeps me busy and it keeps it fun..... Im hoping to get my Rupp minibike going this weekend..
