leaking carb
#1
I have a taotao 110D that I have been having the usual problems with. I just found this board a few days ago. Tons of information, almost too much to info, if there's such a thing.
I have lots of questions about the issues I have, but for now, i'll just keep it simple with the one problem that is becoming the biggest headache. The carburetor is leaking gas, a lot of gas out of the drain tube that comes out the bottom. I have my quad in the garage and the odor is making it's way in the house and upsetting my wife. It also looks to have oil leaking from it as well. I've uploaded a picture to see if that can help.
What can I do to stop the leaking.

like MWQ said it is almost always a float problem..
if you are unable to get it fixed correctly I have an easy quick alternative solution - install a fuel shutoff valve (if you dont have one) between the carb and tank and when you are done riding shut the gas off and let the motor run untill the carb is dry.. no more gas to leak
this happens on my dirtbike and I just cant get it to stop, so that is what I do.. on my bike it takes ~5 minutes or so to run the carb dry
a shutoff is almost mandatory anyway if you are going to be in the carb
good luck

The Tao Tao should have a fuel turn off valve near the tank. It could be the float level but I would doubt that. Once set the float level should not shift unless it is fuel saturated or has a leak, depending on what type of material the float is made of. More likely it is the needle seat that shuts off the fuel flow when the bowl is full. It is probably dirty or damaged and allows fuel to flow even when the float has lifted to shut it off.

They should come on there but I dont think they do.
My 125d did not come with one (I bought it new in december) and the parts list for the 110d doesnt show one either.. I found a cheap one at the auto parts store to use on mine (it was in the section where they have lawn mower spark plugs and whatnot)

Thank you all for your responses. I thought I would get an email each time someone responded. Guess just the first time.
I did pull the carb and cleaned it, and re-installed it. Doesn't seem to be leaking any longer. However, on to the more problems that I have. I probably need to open a new thread for this.
I got it to fire up okay after I put it back together, then the next day it started right up and my son rode it for about 10 minutes, then it died on him. Tried to start it back up and it just turns over but does not start. I thought it might be the battery, so I took it off and fully charged it. Same problem. First time I try to start it it sound like it's going to start then it acts like the battery is drained and barely turns over. I took the battery to the battery plus store to have them test it. It's fully charged and tests out good. So my question. What more tests do i need to do. Starter the problem? This seems like an easy fix? Thanks again for your help.
