Red Cat 150cc ATV..

Shifting doesn't engage as the cable is not connected to the rear end linkage.
Can someone briefly explain what the rear axle does when the shifter lever is moved to forward or reverse as needed?
Thanks.

that's a shifter? new one on me! explain to me how that works as the chain driver comes out of the gearbox at the little sprocket and turns the live axle with the larger sprocket. now i'll admit i'm not familiar with your quad, but i've never seen a linkage like that on top of the axle that you have circled.
. so i don't know how that could be a shifter? but i'm willing to learn.

Well maybe bad choice of words?
That cable is directly attached to the shifter handle on the side of the atv... push forward for forward and pull back for reverse.
When I manually pull or push that gold lever with the spring the rear wheels reverse direction.
Just picked up the atv for my little guy and trying to get it in shape.
Thanks.
