Hello,

I recently acquired an FSN 110 Quad. The quad ran when it was put into storage 2 years ago. I started by replacing the battery with a new 4AH battery. Also, the original owner never had the keyfob although it has the control box & siren mounted.

When I try to start it, the starter acts as if it cannot get enough juice to turn over. I measured the voltage on the other side of the Solenoid and it is around 7 volts. I had read on here that it should be higher than that. So, I ordered a replacement from Ebay for like $8 hoping that was the problem. I got it installed today and same thing. I get only 7-8 volts on the other side of the solenoid or at the starter. Also, the positive will get pretty hot from trying to start. I then made new ground and positive wires to make sure that it was able to carry the amps to no avail.

What should I try next? Should I be getting 12v to the starter?

The missing important data is whether you have 12 volts across the battery terminals while you're attempting to start the quad. You measured 7 volts at the output side of the solenoid which is wrong. Starters won't turn with a measlely 7 volts...

So do the same measurement with your meter placed at the battery terminals. Red lead on the positive battery terminal, and black lead on the negative terminal. Measure this while attempting to crank the starter motor. If it drops to 7 volts here too (I suspect it will also be 7 volts) then your battery is bad or discharged.

I know you replaced the battery, but is your new battery charged? Did you charge it after installing it? New batteries must be charged of course before use. Does your quad battery charging system work? Have you measured it?

Try using jumper cables to jump your quad battery to your car. Please take extra care to get the polarity of the jumper cables right when doing this... Does the starter motor turn now?
