Coolster 3125-XR8 carb issue?? New.

Sorry bout the link? The engine is in a street chopper frame. This little quad is much smaller. Speakng of small, I want so bad to put this thing up on a table. Im 6'2" and it feels like this engine is at my ankels.
It should only take me a few minutes to do. I'll share any horror stories if something goes wrong.

My back always aches after I work on this thing.

I pulled out my feeler guage, I need a new set. They are RUSTED!. But I gave it go. During this my.rusted guages broke.
We talked about how low this thing is. Well the bottom rocker SUCKS! I dont have any saw horses, and it's not going on my pool table, so.... I sat it up on it's rear end. Wow, that made the job easy. And I could see what I was doing.
I noticed a gain in performance, but because i broke the guages, I know it's not perfect. When I get new guages, I'll do it again. With the quad sitting on it's rear end. I have a pick, but still can not post it.

I found the bottom the easiest as there is no obstructions ie frame, carb ect in the way and from under it you get a nicer view of things, hard to stick your head in from the top to see whats going on.

I could not get low enough to even see the rocker arm on the bottom. I have nothing to put it up on. Standing the quad up made perfect visibility of both top and bottom rocker arms. Which in this case were now right and left. Worked great for me.

Didn't forget about you guys. I have my drill bits and haven't had the time to work on the quad. Not sure how the next week or two will go. Just bought a beater car for work use and now my time is getting that up and running maintenance wise.
I will have to check my timing and valves one of these days! How bad was the valves off? Lots of performace change or more change happened with the pilot drilled to #80?

For performance, I noticed the most gain from first cleaning the pilot, and then drilling to #80. After that every step has given noticable gains. They are all worth doing when you have the time. And none of them take very long individually.

had some time to put the new carb on on sunday.. it was a giant p.i.a. like always
I had to point it out by the left foot.. it couldnt go forward and retain an air filter because of the steering shaft, the spacer wasnt tall enough for it to go back and clear the starter, and the throttle cable coming out of the top was hitting the frame and gas tank pretty much everywhere. The throttle cable ended up outside of the frame.. eventually I will get a 90 fitting for it and it should fit better, but it is installed now.

that is how it looks ready to ride.. the filter isn't too intrusive, but its intake noise is much lounder.. maybe even louder than the exhaust

this is what it looks like without the filter, you can see the throtle cable on the outside of the frame here

here it is on the back side, you can see the new manifold and adapter.. you can also see my ghetto fabulous fuel stopper.. a grinder bit
unfortunately I wasn't able to do much testing.. the fuel leaked horibly from the gas tank due to the 1/4" line on the 1/8" nipple.. the zip tie wouldnt stop the leak, I am going to have to figure something else out..
I drove it up and down the street 1 time.. it had a HORRIBLE bog right off of idle.. as bad as it has ever been, but it seemed to run great once it was rolling.. I have a bigger pilot to try, so if it is a lean bog I hope that will fix it.. if it is rich I will need to by another jet, but I cant really procede untill I find a fix to the fuel leak..
I will run by the hardware store tonight and see if I can find some sort of clamp that might hold tighter than a zip tie.. I dont think you can get hose clamps that small, but perhaps a spring type oem fuel lind kind of thing. I may end up having to replace the bung on the fuel tank, but I hoped no to have to take it that far..
