I have a 2007 Baja 400 4x4 with automatic transmission and while accelerating it forward it will buck or jerk occasionally then as if it slipped into neutral it will grind till rpms come down and it will engage again! seems to be fine under 10 km/h. but when going faster it will do this. any help would be appreciated thanks!

 

follow the shifting linkage back from your hand shifter back through underneath the plastics back to the transmission. look for the threaded adjustment nuts. it may look similiar to this:


you may need to see if that can be adjusted with the nuts on the shift linkage itself. it kind of sounds like you're getting it in gear but when a lot of torque is placed on the gears, it "pops" out of gear. try this before you pull the transmission. OR, the other thing to check is pull the side cover off and check the condition of your CVT drive belt. see if it's worn down or if your clutch faces are worn down.

 

you'll also need to change the oil in the transmission. look for metal shavings. that'll also tell you if you have gear or bearing wear/problems.
