Default 250 cc quad

I have a quad that it wont start.

Here is what I have.
250cc atv parts: 4-stroke Chinese Quad 250cc Engine, Frame and control 4-wheeler parts.

Here is the problem.

When I turn the key it sound like its real heavy. It turns about 2 times then stops. then I have to turn the key again. What could this be. Starter Coil?

do you have an ohm meter/voltmeter? if so, test the leads and let's see what the voltage is on the battery with the key in the off position. what's that voltage? now, turn the key to the on position and remeasure the battery's voltage, what's that voltage? NOW, crank the engine/starter and see what THAT voltage is reading. and finally, put the leads of the tester down at the starter wires and ground to the starter frame and crank the engine/starter and measure THAT voltage at the starter. let's see where the draw is on this circuit.

I agree with Jaster94. The first thing I would do is measure the voltage at the battery and starter motor while attempting to crank the engine. A bad connection, bad starter, or bad battery will cause the starter to stall - resulting in low voltage at the starter motor when engaged.

If you were to turn the engine by hand, does it turn freely?

Do you have a kick start? Does it work?
