Go Kart Engines
#1
Hi, I recently found a deal on a go kart I couldn’t pass up. The kart sells for around $1,500 new and I got it for a couple hundred bucks. After owning a kids ATV with a Chinese motor for the last few years, I knew better than to get another Chinese powered headache, but I couldn’t pass it up for the price.
The kart has the same ol 110cc Chinese motor we’re all familiar with, the same one that comes on the ATV’s, Pitbikes, etc. They guy even threw in 2 engines (in pieces) for parts, etc. After a week or so of working on this P.O.S. Engine, I think I’ve had enough. My question is, are these engine’s fairly easily replaceable with something like a standard Briggs or Honda horizontal shaft motor? Something easy and dependable, oh and with a frickin pull rope of course haha!! Why in the world don’t they put pull ropes on these Chinese motors?!? Has anyone ever swapped out these chines motors with something like that? I just want to put a regular four stroke, 5,6,7 HP motor on the kart where the kids can ride without me having to turn wrenches every time. Any advice or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

If you are a good enough fabricator/welder it should be fairly easy.. Id use a torque convertor to get decent power..
