Default Linhai Bighorn 28 - 400cc UTV engine problems

I have only had this UTV for about 6 months. I was out riding and the engine starts sputtering and I thought it was going to leave me stranded. I was able to crawl out of the woods, but the more gas I gave it, the more it bogged down. I took it to a local mechanic and he informed me there was no issue, he could not get it to do the same. I took it out again this weekend, it ran fine until the last day, same thing. Anyone have an idea what the issue could be or what to look for? I did go through a good bit of mud and water, but nothing deeper than the exhaust.

Thanks.

Water in fuel or an electrical fault that goes off once the machine dries out. Most likely place on electrics is coil pack and HT lead. Chinese stuff is not suited to deep water, in fact only Hondas are, because only Honda seal all electrical connectors.

Default Thank you for the reply

Thank you merryman. I had gone thru the same mudholes on Saturday and had no issues and twice on Sunday. The third pass Sunday is when I started having issues. Is there something I could apply to keep the electrical components dry? Also, should I drain the gas tank or is there an additive I could use to displace possible water?

Don't know of any additives for the fuel but most carbs have drain screws at the bottom of the float bowl so you can drain any water that collects there out. There used to be a liquid plastic spray for wiring to keep water out. Also waxy underseal sprays are sometimes used. WD40 is a common spray to "dry" already wet coils and leads but dust sticks to it and causes more problems when the dust gets wet next time.
