Default Coolster 110cc Ignition Coil short

Thanks a ton for any help in advance.
The ATV is a Coolster 110cc Model 3050B

The Problem: I get power to the ignition coil, but no spark to the plug. If the coil isn't mounted to the frame tab, the quad will turn over but there is no spark. If the coil is mounted to the frame or touching anything metal when I turn the key, the quad will not turn over at all and the coil shorts out (cracks, melts, and will eventually start on fire). Either way, the plug will not spark.

The background: I bought it for my son for $100 from a guy who got sick if dealing with the various electrical issue it had. I should have declined, but I don't really have $600 to spare on a new one. The quad had various issues, it was rolled over, broken starter (internal mechanical failure), switch, a cobbled together wiring harness, ect. I went through and repaired or replaced everything I could think of.... starter, stator, CDI, voltage reg, switch, new spark plug, new fuse, new ignition coil, timing marks are correct... still couldn't get it to fire. I finally decided to replace the harness... which has led me here. Now I've blown through two ignition coils. I've pulled the black/white from the CDI on the off chance it was a kill switch issue, same problem. It's becoming a money pit that I don't want my wife to fine about about. It feels like it has to be something stupidly simple that I'm forgetting about.

Before I take this Chinese paperweight out back and use it for target practice, I thought I'd try this forum. Any help is appreciated!
