I am absolutely baffled with this quad. Purchased it non running with very little info. I was told it ran but the kids messed with it and it doesn’t run now.
Mid 2000s Baja 90.
It had intermittent spark. It would have great spark while the battery charger was hooked up and intermittent weak spark when it wasn’t hooked up.
New battery.
New coil
new cdi
New rectifier
great compression
valves are adjusted.
none of these made any difference. Can’t even get it to sputter in starter fluid.
my only guess is it’s a weak stator? Does that sound right?
i pulled the cover off and it is a goofy 7 1/2 pole stator which I can’t seem to find online. Can a 6 pole be installed or will that not work?
Strange one that, it looks like the trigger coil is inside the flywheel. Also seems to Be AC ignition, so the battery should have no effect on the ignition, other than turning the engine faster when on the charger. Anyway, looks like Baja are better than most at owners and spares books, though no mention of actual spares on the website, Baja Motor Sports | Owner's Manuals I would check valve timing and flywheel timing, and clean the carb out, before throwing any more money at the ignition side.
