Hey guys, I'm hoping someone has seen this problem before. I bypassed the ignition coil, and with the battery went straight to the starter, can get the starter to turn over but it looks as if its not hitting the flywheel to turn the motor over, the motor had a large Rats nest in it where the air tube comes down from the front of the eton. starter turning good. My question is, with the switch off, would this stop the motor from turning over? waiting for a new starter switch to come in.

 

Completely baffled by your reference to ignition coil as this has nothing whatsoever to do with the starter circuit. Check that you have connected the starter the right way round, negative earth. Not sure how the ETon 150 starter works, most quads have a one way clutch in a gear behind the flywheel. Starter is permanently meshed with the gear and the one way clutch makes the gear grip the flywheel when starter is powered but lets go and gear stops going round once starter is off, flywheel spins round inside it under engine power. Some small quads use a similar starter to cars, mostly the old Bendix type, where the gear on the end of the starter motor flies outwards to engage with a gear on the flywheel when the starter motor starts to spin. One way clutches can fail, or on Bendix types the mechanism can stick.

 

Does the flywheel have teeth where the starter is sitting?

 

Is starter rotating backward?
