GY6 / ODS157FMI Won't start Turns over SLOW
#11
I owe you an apology, I'm an idiot. I assumed that since ODS157FMI was stamped in the bottom of the engine block that I had a GY6 motor. The more I have read and Youtube'd I actually have a Honda Clone, just like you mentioned. I assume same troubleshooting steps apply and I haven't figured it out yet but I just ordered a new starter clutch, the risk is worth the $17 for me. If that doesn't work I'm going to look for one of those total head replacements. I do appreciate you responding and I have learned a lot. The hunt continues.

Most of those little Honda clones use a simple three rollers on the ends of springs type one way clutch, it is always the springs that go wrong, either compressed or bent out of shape, which is easy to check for. Parts sellers always sell a complete unit anyway, but checking would indicate if you do have a clutch fault or not. While you have the flywheel cover off, check how easy it is to spin the engine over by hand with the plug out. You get some resistance as the camshaft pushes the valves open but, off cam, there shouldn't be any resistance to movement. If there is, you have a partial seizure.
