Default A Monsoon Question

Ya'll,

We bought a Monsoon Motorsports 90cc quad for my son to ride, however it was a "fixer-upper".... I have looked all over this forum and found many helpful things, however I still have a question.

I know the quad is missing the starter relay, which is plugged into a white 4-pin connector under the seat. That I can fix no problem. However, there is another 4-pin female connector, green, up at the front of the frame, passenger side in the rest of the mess of wires....

I *thought* this was the CDI plug-in, however the 4-pin CDI's I've found have the pins vertical while mine are horizontal within the body of the plug. Plus, I have a mysterious blue box screwed to the frame which, now, I realize is probably the CDI.... (as you probably guessed, I'm new to ATV's...)

So what goes to the green plug???

Please help, my son is rolling on the floor in pain from wanting to go ride this little beast.

Respectfully,
Jay Ramsey

Is the "color" of the connector referring to the color of the plastic shell that the wires plug into? If so this means nothing. What are the colors of the wires that plug into the 4 pin connector. Equally important, looking at the rest of the main wiring harness, where else do you see those same colors, and what do they connect to? By looking at the source and destination[s] we can identify the function of the wires, and then figure out what the connector is for.

Here is a wiring diagram supposedly for a monsoon 90cc quad:

Like all quad wiring diagrams, sometimes they pan out, and sometimes they don't. It might be worthwhile to see if any of the colors on the diagrams match up. Even if it is partially correct it could be somewhat helpful.

Your descripton of a four pin "connector" for the starter solenoid has me a little concerned. Normally on quads the starter solenoid (relay) has two small wires that feed in through a two pin connector, the other two connections are screw lugs with big fat wires going to them - one to the battery, and one to the starter motor. Pluggable connectors just can't take the current that the starter motor draws. I've never seen a Monsoon, but would be very surprised if the starter motor current is fed through a connector.

What are the colors on the blue box thing? How many wires?

Ya'll,

Thanks for the response; I have been out working and didn't have a chance to reply, but here's what I found: the plug at the front of the frame (the green one) is for the voltage regulator... BMIkarts showed a photo of it, even the bolt pattern for it is right.... Ordered the parts last night, hopefully can get it running soon.

I have a second (unresearched) question - I have been advised to plug of the oil tank and just mix the fuel/oil into the fuel tank. What ratio should I use or how high should I start (50:1, 40:1, etc) so as not to damage the little ticker?

Thanks much,
Jay
