Belt Slipping On Takeoff
#1
I have a 500 scrambler with an hpd clutch kit and hpd roller secondary with the spring in the 6-1 position. When I take off from a dead stop or from a rolling start at full throttle the belt slips. When it slips I can hear the engine rpm's build up and then the belt catches and starts to accelerate just fine. I tried a new belt which helped slightly but didn't solve the problem. What could cause this? Do I need more spring tension in the secondary?

I am not familiar with the roller clutch, soon to be hopefully, but yes I would try different pre-tensions and see what happens. It can make a huge difference by what holes the spring is in. I know people with full race mods who use the factory belt with no slipping problems, so I think it is more of a set-up problem than anything.

Also, I would double check your belt deflection (tension). Also make sure your clutches are clean. Compressed air (don't breath the dust) for all components accept for the sheave faces, there use Brakeclean, acetone, or alcohol to wipe any residue off.
