Clutch prob. or belt prob. LT80
#1
How can I tell if my sons LT80 needs a belt or clutch work? I just had it bored and I recently did the removal of 2 clutch weights. Now all it does is rev up and go alittle. maybe 15 tops and once it gets going it tries to die. Is his Belt shot or Clutch gone. He really is ready to ride.

There is nothing in the clutch's to make this happen "UNLESS" there is a roller that worked out of place.
Belts seem to wear forever, and for TT we insist on a old one.
I'd double check the rollers

Ok I took the side cover off tonight and started the motor. It looks to me like when I installed them heavyer springs in the rear clutch it isnt turning very much. The belt is riding up that riser right. Could the 3 little springs in the rear clutch me to heavy and not allowing the belly weights to seperate?

I just did the same thing with my sons clutch. I could hear it slipping when you get on. Shop is not open on Mondays to check on a new belt. With the weights out it does take off quicker. But shortly after you take off you can hear the belt slipping and not going anywhere. I put the weights back in and it seams to run fine now. Its a 92 that has been rode hard never opened up. Mr LT80 do you have any help for me?

This is why I usually do not recommend clutch mods w/o a ported cyl. It just doesn't work sometimes
What is happening here is that 4 rollers are not enough weight to make the spring work.(like Oregon found out)
Go to 6 rollers again and see what it does. If it makes the spring engage too fast, then try 5 rollers.
What pound spring did you get?
Mr.Oregon, You say it's running fine now? If there is a problem your expieriencing, Please PM me. That way I can stay "less" confused
