Steep hills? Bring out the Vtwin
#1
These photos were taken 2 days ago. This is the steepest (but not tallest) dune that I know of. The sand was wet so we decided to try and get to the top. You can see from the photo the 700 made it to the top and jumped into the air. My freind on his raptor could not climb the hill. His raptor is greared down, but he could not hold second. Once he shifts into 1st it's all over. He made 3 tries, lowred his pressure and made 2 more. He never got past the 2/3 point. Chalk one up for the twin!

Green - Nice pics. Any idea of the angle and height of that hill? We have an area near Flagstaff, AZ called the Cinders - ever been there? The bigger hillclimbs are anywhere from 500 to +1000 ft high, 45-65 degrees. I haven't seen any V's out there, but if it is a great climber, the Cinders are an awesome challenge for the V or anything else.

I don't ride sand very much, but I have to agree about the V-Twin being a climbing beast. My biggest problem is not hitting the throttle too hard when working my way up big rocky hills. Nearly flipped it a few times because of the amount of torque in low range. Bump the throttle as it starts over a big rock on the hill and it can come over on you real easy. Never lacks for power, I love the V-Twin.

For some more details, you can see a dip at the bottom. That prevents a running start. You get about a 15ft launch then the hill is only about 80-100ft high I guess. I dont know the angle, but I've been all over these dunes, and it's THE steepest hill I know. This one has about 15ft runway. The 1st time I went up the sand was fresh and I had good speed. The second time the sand was loosened and I was crawling. I think I went up about 4-5 times that day. There are about 5 chutes to choose from. I think part of the raptor's problem was it couldn't make good use of the 15ft runway at the bottom. Of course the banshee made it. He was taking the photos from the top.
