Default Can a dead battery cause damage?

I have a Magnum 500 (2000). Someone recently left the key and lights on and left the starter switch set to Run. When I went to use the bike I discovered a dead battery and noticed all the switches on.

I have charged the battery and have tried other batteries. None work - it won't start, run the headlights or even light up the the 'dashboard' lights.

I cleaned the contacts and leads with a stiff wire brush while I had the battery removed for charging and also topped off the battery with distilled water.

If it was turning over weakly, I wouldthink that it was time to replace the battery. But I am getting nothing, as if maybe there is a blown fuse or something else blocking the current.

I think there is a fuse in that 'bubble pouch' right near the battery but dont want to cut it open without knowing for sure and also without knowing how I would go about re-sealing this pouch - I suspect it is airtight to keep water off of whatever connections are made inside it.

Thanks in advance for any/all help,
Marc

Do you have the battery terminals on the wrong lugs?

No, they are on correct, red is on + ... the bike did have a few mods (snorkle, bypass of the fan thermostat, etc) when I bought it but no one would have a reason to swap the battery leads would they?

I think the pouch is a fusible link - not sure? Maybe someone else can help with this one?
