Default HOT UNDER THE COLLAR

rode the last race of the season in the hillbilly grand prix down here in southern mo. the first moto the quad ran perfect.about 10 mins into the 2nd moto, i blast out into a clearing and all of a sudden it starts pinging, backfireing, and going down on power.. i was told that if its leaned out and you want to save it, dont shut it off hot, so i let it idle on a long down hill section, and it slowing started clearing out... on the last lap it did the same thing again....finished the race (placed 3rd overall)"pissed off a bunch of 400 class kawa, suz, and honda's, but anyway, once at the trailer and changed into street clothes, the quad fired right up with no probs..
i run a 150 jet with what i think is a good burn on the plug and havent had any probs for a couple of month since i had ritter mill the head...i feel like i just got it hot, prob from the mud packed around everything and it couldnt cool... my question is should i be mixing some race gas in with the 93 pump gas im running, thinking that would lower the temp in the cylinder.. and with what i have described, whats the opinion on how bad it hurt it, should i tear it down and put a piston in it... i have been told that polaris pistons are generally junk to begin with and i have ridden this quad since new, and now 2 yrs old... any help? looking for some advice..

thanks
james

Default HOT UNDER THE COLLAR

That sounds like what was happening with my 2000 Scrambler 500. I checked everything that I could think of. I finially took it to someone to look at it. Found out that the Stator had gotten wet sometime and that the stator was breaking down when it was getting hot.
I am in the process of ordering one off of Ebay. Everywhere I could find they were 299. I hope that this helps out some. I took me about a year to finally figure it out.
