I have a 86trx200sx and the electric starter works fine but when i cut off the engine it makes a winding down sound followed by a thud then it stops. I heard from a friend that it could be the electric starter but i'm not sure. PLEASE help , if it is a more serious problem i would like to know before it gets worse any OPINIONS or comments would be appreciated! THANKS....

Yes cory has that problem with shutting off his 200SX.

I'm not sure, how do you turn it off??...I turn mine off by the key only...I never use the kill switch.

mudslinger85,

Yes, mine does it to. I don't know what it is. I have rode it for a year with it doing that and the electric start still works and everything is working normal. My dad says its the starter. Ride it untill it breaks. :-)

Could be that the starter is always staying engaged, so the engine is spinning the starter motor while it's running. That would cause a pretty good loss of power, and also wear out the starter motor bearings and brushes MUCH sooner than they normally would. One way you could tell if the starter is spinning while the motor is running is put a volt meter across the + and - wires on the starter motor, and if you see any voltage (I'd guess 2+ volts), then the motor is being turned.

i had a 185s that made the same noise,it wasn't worth putting money into so i just ran it.im pretty sure its the outer shell of the centrifigul clutch,it has a sprag that only lets the shell turn in one direction and when its worn it spins in both directions and thats what your probably hearing.
