Default Ran my 04 Sportsman 400 out of gas, won't start...

A few days ago I accidentally ran my 2004 Sportsman 400 out of gas. I left it sit for about a day, than added about a gallon or so of gas, and tried to start it. The starter is cranking then engine, but it won't turnover. It's been like that for two days, and I've been trying to start 1 or 2 times a day. Anybody know what to do to get it started again?

Im not sure if you have a vacumn operated fuel valve or not. If it has a 'pri' position, thats the prime, put it there, and crank it over. Once it starts, go back to on.

It has a Fuel Valve switch on the side, and can be either on or off. Right now it's in the "on" position. I have no idea how to prime this engine, and the owner's manual doesn't mention anything about it.

My 04 400 did the same thing when it ran out of gas.. Just pour a bit in the plug hole and let it fire, it should eventually start, mine took forever to start.

Forgive me for asking this, but by "plug hole," do you mean the gas tank?

Well, after looking in the owner's manual and on the four wheeler itself, I can't find the spark plug. Could you please give me a general idea of where it's at?

Some gas should flow to the carb without the pump, but they seem to be flaky when there isn't much in the tank. Try pinching off the intake between the airbox and the carb, then crank it. That'll increase the vacum and get the pump going.

You could try pulling the choke all the way out too! That should help pull some gas through the lines! Worked on my 700 anyway- when I drained the tank.
