put it in the upper gears and hit the gas. if you just hear the engine increase in rpm but your not going faster, it is slipping. you can smell the oil too. if it smells really burnt, more than likely the clutch needs replaced.

OK, this bike is an AUTOMATIC, so it doesn't have a clutch per se. I am assuming it might have some kind of centrifugal clutch that kicks in when the engine reaches a certain speed??? That what you are refering to? If so, isn't it adjustable? If it is a grinding sound, might be something worse!
