hi, im looking to buy an atv and i see a 1988 kawasaki bayou 300 for sale for 850 dollars. he says everything is great about. the one problems he says there is that you can't gun it real fast or it will bogg down. he says you can turn it a quarter turn fast and any more than that it boggs down. i dont know the reason, he also says there is alot of crap in the gas tank. im wondering what the problem is and is it still wroth buying?? please help thank you

Could be the crap in the tank getting sucked up against the filter and not allowing enough fuel to pass through, could be the crap in the tank has stuff caked up in the carb. and not allowing enough fuel to pass through, could be improper jetting, could be improper float height in carb. causing a lack of fuel in carb., and could be a combination of all of the above. Replace fuel filter, drain the tank, flush the tank, seal the tank, clean the carb., re-build the carb., and see what that does. If the problem still exists, start playing with the jetting. Everything involved above is easily done yourself for a cost of no more than $100 (that's if you don't already have a gallon of carb. cleaner to soak the carb. in for a few days).

Ask the kawasaki dudes They would know more. But it sounds like it may be running rich

The problem is whith out a doubt in the fuel delivery system. The s#!t in the tank sure dusn't help. Could be clogged fuel filter, incorrect float levels, stuffed up pilot jett.......anything involving the fuel system. When your dealing with delivering percise amounts of liquid through tubes and jets no bigger then a quarter inch and as small as holes measured in single digit milimeters it only takes a speck of dirt to throw things off. And thus I would say the junk in the tank is the problem. Its worth it, just drain the tank, clean the carb really well ( with carb cleaner, NOT soap and water), and rebuild the carb. All this can be done for easily under $100.
