Default P650-- belt slipage??

Hey guys,i have a 2003 Prairie 650 with approx 2100 kms on it, a couple days ago my buddy and i thought we'd venture out into a snow storm, the snow was deep in spots but nothing to drastic, anyhow, my belt started slipping every once and awile, it was the first time it ever happened, we hit some pretty good drifts causing snow to come back on us. I opened the clutch cover when i got home but there wasnt a drop of water to be found and my belt is plenty tight (1 inch deflection) If snow piled up under my seat is there someway it would have caused this such as shorting something out?? Please help me out guys. thanks

I'll bet that the snow was sucked in because you were stirring it up. The intake for the clutch is high under the hood. I guess you can call it the hood. The exhaust side is under the seat. You won't suck anything in from there, but in deep water it can get in on the exhaust side. My guess is the snow was drifting and got sucked in the intake side and got the belt a little wet and caused the slippage. By the time you opened the cover it was long time dry. I ride in deep water and have gotten my belt wet from the exhaust side. Just sit on the hill in neutral and rev the motor a little. The heat from the engine and the rpm of the clutch will dry you out. Don't ever try to run down the rode or hold the gas to it in gear thinking you will dry it out quicker. I guarantee after you smoke that belt the next time you open it up on the road that belt is going to explode. It just can't take it when you smoke the belt. I've blown 3 at speed, it will scare the hell out of you.
