Default Sportsman 500 H.O.

I need some help. I've been looking at getting a utility quad for a while now. It's almost mind numbing the amount of choices there are and the amount of opinions you get also. I have a friend that has a Sportsman 500 H.O. that he wants to sell. I think it's a 2002 or maybe 2003, I'm not for sure. Anyways it's in excellent shape, in fact he says it hasn't used it in over a year. The odometer reads 167 miles and the hours are like 35 or so. He has a bunch of stuff on it like heavy duty steel bumpers, winch, windshield, and baskets on top of the racks. I know this guy takes real good care of his stuff too. I asked him what he wanted for it and he wasn't for sure and he'd get back to me after checking around. My question is what is it worth "ballpark" and are these pretty good machines? I'm considering a Kodiak 450 (I know this is a Polaris forum) but if he doesn't want an arm and a leg for it I would probably get it. I just wish it was a different color than olive. Any info appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

The Kelly blue book says $4750.00. The 500's are great atv's can't go wrong with one.

Even with all the extras and lower miles?

It would be worth more with all the extras and the low miles.

I would say $5000.00, if you get it i would take it to a good dealer and get all the fluids changed ... that should cost around $150.00. Better to start riding with fresh fluids.

How would a sportsman do at the sand dunes. I mainly need it for farm use, but I'd probably go to the dunes every now and then.
