Default LT 80 recoil. too many problems with battery...

replaced the battery and everytime i shut it off it doesnt seem to have enough power in the battery to start it again. it ends up getting stuck and then i have to boost it off another quad or my truck. turns over with ease but just wont start. it didnt come with a recoil, so i was wondering how hard it would be to install one and how much it's going to cost me...

also, i know there's restrictors in this motor but not sure where, can anyone point me in the right direction and let me know how to remove them.

thanks,

Joel

Sounds like you have a bad starter.

I'd really like to convert our Honda 90 to electric start, just can't see uncomverting an LT80 to pull start. Probably cheaper all around to replace the starter than to try to convert to a pull start.

i got my recoil at the dealership for 85.00 and then i went to the hardware store and got a plug that was a 1 3/4 thet tightens to test pluming so i could remove the starter and battery. as for restrictors there is a round brass looking thing that is between the slide and cap . remove carb top and look between cao and slide. next one is where the exhaust mounts to the cyclinder it looks like a washer with a small hole in it . remove and toss. and bolt exhast back on . anthing else ask LT80. hope this help.

starter seems fine cuz once hooked up with jumper cables to a better battery no problems. turns over without any problems.... no sense looking for a used recoil??

I agree with jaybeecon. Pull the flywheel and clean/sand the stator. It'll prolly charge again. Dirt and crud get in there and cause problems like this.
I'd still get a pull start for it.

I also agree with jack on the flywheel, but if you do end up eventually needing a new starter then check out ebay.
Why would you want to remove the electric starter? It dosen't way that much? Are you racing it or something?

i dont want to remove it, the quad just wont start on the battery. rather have a sure fire way of pulling it over then i dont have to worry about not getting it started anymore.

I am pretty sure that you can leave the electric starter on and still have the pull as a backup. At least that is what the dealer told me when I asked about it.

absolutely, 100% definitely you can . cost me about $140 Cdn, with tax, to add pull start. comes as a complete unit, just bolts on simple. definitely do it.
