Default Clean your mini's stator area....

.

Today, I had some spare time to take a few pictures and do a small amount of editing. To learn how to inspect a stator on an '03 Polaris Predator 90, surf the below links.

Notes:

1 - Each brand of 2 stroke 90 could be slightly different. For example, different flywheel, plastic cover, spindle size, coily layout, etc. etc. But, the process of inspecting any stator system would be the same approach.

2 - Stators on 4 or 2 strokes "could blow" because of too much dirt / mud in their stator area, a bad connection in its wiring harness connections (which could feed current backwards into the stator coil, thus creating more heat in the stator system) or poor sheaving on the stator coil thin wires. Thus, the high heat &/or mud deteriorates the thin stator coil wiring sheaving. Or, perhaps a combination of one these causes could make any brand of stator to blow. It took 2.5 years for the stator to blow on our '03 Pred-90 Trail riding mini. And we do lots of water / mud trails. Going forward, we plan to clean our stator area ever 4-6 months (or immediately after every major mud run).

3 - Dielectric (electrical wire connector) grease on every electrical plug & connector in its entire wiring harness does reduce the amount of spikes / electric dips in its entire electrical system. Thus, reducing the amount of current back-flow into the stator coil system. It's recommended that all ATVs (big & small) have Dielectric grease applied every spring & fall. Especially for water / mud runners like our family.

4 - To read the small text within each link, click on its "Normal Size" button. If using dial-up access, these graphic based pictures will take a long time to display.

5 - To save a picture on your local Windows xx based system, simply select the picture using the left mouse button, press the Right Mouse button (for its alternate menu) and select "SAVE Picture AS" feature to download.

Here's the links...

- Press 1 -
- Press 2 -
- Press 3 -
- Press 4 -
- Press 5 -
- Press 6 -
- Press 7 -
- Press 8 -
- Press 9 -
- Press 10 -

- Press 12 -

If wondering, our replacement '03 Pred-90 stator assembly is "on order". Hopefully, we'll receive the shipment within the next 4-6 days.

Hope this helps others....

Update:

On another forum, I received lots of Picture Description content improvement feedback. Mostly from Billy Holt at WRH Racing. At times, I don't know my left and right, and my grammer (lol) isn't the best and had the stator coil descriptions backwards. Therefore, I updated my above pictures with the correct info. If you've already downloaded pictures (for your local archives), please update with the above updated pictures.

Sorry for the confusion I may have caused...
