Default Skid plates for 250ex

We are buying a second quad (250ex) so that my wife can learn to ride. Was trying to keep my costs down, but as you all know it is hard when you buy a new quad. Had to get the trailer so we can tow both quads, and bought all her riding gear online. When I bought my Raptor I went ahead and bought all my skid plates. With this 250ex I don't know if it is worth digging in my pockets even more for the skidplates. The type of riding is hard and soft desert trail riding, but this is my wife we are talking about, she really won't ride hard (at least for awhile anyways). This is a quad that my brothers and brother-in-laws will probably be doing some riding on also. I haven't even looked at what protection the 250ex has at this point we are picking it up tommorow.

I just wanted some thoughts on what others think on this 250ex getting skidplates or would it be okay for me to chance? Any input to help me lean either way would be greatly appreciated!

if you do decide to get a skid plate you need to get the engine skid plate first you will pay maybe under $100.00 for it,think of this way you can spend a 100.00 or spend more because if a rock hit your engine hard a enought it could screw it up then you would have to buy a new motor in it and its goning to cost more than 100.00 so i say get the a-arm,engine and the swing arm skid plate it will run you a little over 200.00

I bought a swingarm skidplate for my rancher and i will get one for my daughter's 250 ex soon. I think it is a great investment so you won't damage the rearend as it would be more expensive to fix. If your wife is like mine, she won't want anyone else riding her quad especially your brothers. LOL They can get a little possessive of their new toys.

Up front, you want to protect the FRAME as well as the engine. The Maier plastic full chassis plates work great! They are light, cheap, and way stronger than you might think. When you run up on a rock, aluminum will gaul and hang up. Plastic is slicker, and you will slide right off.

In the back (on the utes and the 250EX), I have just stuck with the stock ones, and they have been adequate to prevent any disasters. The aftermarket ones make you give up to much ground clearance.

I had a Maire plastic skid on my Recon. It was slick. It would slide over the trees and snow like it was greased on the bottom. I would check it from time to time for damage. There was never anything more than scratches and scrapes from running over stuff.

I put a DG Baja skid on my Foreman and it's not as slick as the Maire.

For the price, I would probably go with another Maire next time.

I just installed one on my kids 250ex this weekend. Got one from Moose racing. It bolts on perfect and looks great. Took a whole 10 min. I didnt like that exposed frame and engine. I also put on a White brothers E-series exhaust along with a Uni-filter and Re-jettted the carb. I think I have woken her up. It's a lot more fun to ride now!!

Thanks guys I will shop online for some skid plates. Any suggested places to look. I can't seem to find any of the plastic skids for the 250ex.

Check out ebay or Rockymountainatv.com
Both would be cheaper than ordering directly from the manufacturer.

I ordered a generic chassis skid plate and a-arms from ebay Honda 250ex Skid plate A arm guard set!. Came to $86.00 total with shipping. I am sure these won't be the same quality as my PRMs on my Raptor, but it is better then not putting them on. Thanks for talking into getting skids, I feel better now!
