.

When you say sticky, do you mean "the cable(s) are sticky" or the pads themselves seem sticky???

Not too sure about the LT-80 brand. On our '03 Pred-90 brand, I've been told that groved pads are much better then smooth surface pads. For a picture of our rear grove pads, surf: - Press Here -

If spring seems too weak, you might be able to replace with a stronger spring. For a visual of our Pred-90's long "helper" compression spring, surf: - Press Here - If you have the same type of compression spring on your brand, you may want to investigate / replace it as well.

For your brake surface contact area, doing circle motions with steel wool and/or fine sand paper makes them grip better. Especially if you do lots of mud / crud type riding like we do. Brake cleaner also cleans the unseen oils off the pad to steel contact surface as well.

For sticky cables in cold weather, I like using auto lock deicer or gasline antifreeze. For warm weather, I like using WD-40 / Liquid Wrench type oils. This "thin oils" make the cables slide much better. Stay away from the thick oils because they tend to "gum up" cables.

Hope these ideas help....

How did you make your chain tensioner?

Just so it's clear the chain rollers you see on my page only take up the slack. They are not a true spring loaded tensioner. With that being said, I purchased a generic chain roller from a motorcycle shop. Most catalogs and shops have them. With the cover off the chain use the roller and a bolt to mark the spot on the swing arm to drill a hole. Place the roller on the swing arm with a nut on each side of the roller bolt. It was pretty easy. The fellow known as LT80 just used a roller skate wheel.

make sure the brake cams are removed, cleaned, and put a touch of grease on them. that's the part that opens up to spread the pads. you may need a couple of new o-rings too.
