Just got a 97 Mojave 250!

Got a 97 mojave 250. its been sitting for two years. cleaned out the carb and it starts on the second kick now. Purchased it and a 97 Warrior for 2500 for both. I think i got a good deal. The warrior had a DG pipe on it. I sold the warrior to my bro in law as soon as i brought it home. As much as i love the sound of the warrior and the 6 speed transmission...i remembered how sweet my cousins mojave handled the trails. So i kept the mojave.
Its in need of a chain and sprocket, and i have read about putting a 13Tooth front with 20 in rear tires, which it also needs since they are still stock. I also want to put on an air filter but i dont know what kind of jets, or even where to get them to replace them. I would like to have a website to order from. I really want this thing to outrun a warrior and a wolverine so i can laugh at my cousin and bro. in law.
Also the dang (replaced the "f" word) reverse is messin up. Goes from first to reverse without using the switch. I took the cover screws off of the reverse on the bottom of the motor, but i couldnt get the cover to pop off. Since i didnt know what i was doing on this japanese built stuff, i put it back together instead of breakin that pot metal they make that out of. Does anyone know how to get in there so i can repair that?
All in all i am please with it and im lookin forward to modding it out.
Please help.

I just wanted to take it apart because the cable from kawasaki is 70 f-ing dollars. I have a local guy im gonna check and see what he charges...but that is ridiculous. I thought i should better take it apart and look at it before i start forkin out 70 bones.
I think for a start im gonna put a performance air filter and figure out what to do about my stock filter setup. I will be doing some sand dunes/gravel creek riding and i dont want this thing drowning out every 5 minutes so i may see if i can rig up a breather box much like on my old honda 200sx (my old school 4 wheeler). I do need tires so im either gonna put some regular turf tamer 20 inchers on and match that with a 13 tooth front sprocket. sound good????

well, there. to say for parts for the mojave go to bill kelley racing , and cwr, they will have all you need and jet kits. get the dynojets, there great and razr tires ive got the 13 tooth front sprocket and 42-43 tooth rear one of the two cant remember which though mine is a 93 mojave and ive redone the thing and painted the frame too heck look at the pics to do that if you dont know how you'll see a camra on the left side under the pics of names and so on ........welcome to the mojave club of america .......lol

ranger i see what you have its in your signature about your rear sprocket. i am for sure gonna get the razr tires. i wonder though. what if you went with a 13 tooth front with a normal back and not go with the 20 inch tires but with a bigger size like 21.
what im looking for is getting some top end out of my bike without messing up my acceleration.
i am for sure gonna get the dyno jets as well as a different filter. what is the best way to change my filter setup. should i do away with the outside filter and clamp one on inside my existing box for protections from water while drilling holes in it for greater airflow and removing the stock one but leaving the box. or should i look for one that goes into my existing box and drilling holes in it on the side where it shows below my seat. or just go with the regular clamp on and removing all that junk?????????
thanks for all your help so far. i will have this sheiza owning 400's in no times.

poster, i'd remove the hole air box and get a uni clamp on the filters do get oiled thought before installed on the carb ,it keeps the filters from degrading and actually water dont get into the carb unless u sink the hole bike in water my gears are stock gears and sprockets with 20-11-10 razrs ive got the take off power ( bottom end ) now and still have good top end (speed) too granted its not like the 22 inch tires that was in stalled but any time you change the ratio for gearing sprockets and tires it afects the speed and take off performance try the stock gears and use the 20-11-10 razrz and youll see what im saying about the top end speed its not taking to much off the top though just a little you may or maynot notice it though but if u do remove the whole air box then you'll need an crank case air filter to stick on the crank case or frame and are u still using the thumb throttle? i changed mine to a motionpro twist its much nicer and easier on the thumbs and many things ,but some dont like them ...........

ranger-did you paint the frame yourself or did you have someone else powdercoat it, and if you did how much did it cost you to get the frame painted cuz it looks really good and i was thinking of having mine painted but didnt want to spend too much

no i painted it my self , my niebor who re done, well, restores old cars like the 50 coupe and murcs and t bird has won first place in many shows and bikes like the kz 900 with full kit and slicks well anyways get it painted with por -15 paints it will look and last much longer then powder coating the frame its is on the spendy side depends on who and where you get it done at and also i maybe able to talk to my causins husband who does body and painting he may be able to do it for what ever the paint costs and so much an hour i plan on repainting mine again later after i get more things done but profesonally though my frame now is actually cherry red chevy paint i was out of time on things and had to get it together for lots of resons not just to ride! maybe if the price is right ill get a set of rims for my quad i like the bead loc type they have a much better look and strenght to them and an axel and carrier , and vavle job, head job ,lol all ported and polished and magnaflux the head , but will cost money and plastics like black i like the red and black scheme it goes together so well i think
