Looking into the two ATVs and can't decide. I'm looking for something four wheel drive and fun to ride and work.

 

The wolverine has a little more top end speed and weights a tad less than the rancer, but the rancher has more low end power for turning bigger tires in the mud!!!! It's your call.

 

Had the exact same dilemma. Went with the Wolverine, because it just drove and rode "sportier"

 

hey do you like to do a little jumpin or mudding or trail riding because if you slap on some 25 inch itp blackwaters you will get your mudding and if you want to show off a little bit in front of your friends by jumping definately go with the wolverine

I honestly know nothing about the Rancher I will say that right now. But however I love my '99 Wolverine. It jumps, muds, and goes at a pretty darn good clip for a 350. Just my opinion but does anyone else think the Wolverine hauls pretty good for a 350 in full time 4X4? From my experience i'd say the Wolverine but hey drive them both and see what yah think!

I have a 200o Wolverine which I just got in June this year. This is my first ATV and I must say it is awesome. I can kick the back end around no problem and this machine is really quick in the woods. I raced a friend of mine up North who has a Polaris Sportsman 500. We dragged down a old Air Strip and I dusted him off the line. He eventually caught up to me near the end of the road and I had to slow down because I was running out of road. Needless to say, when we were neck-n-neck, he said we were doing about 62 MPH on his Gauge. I thought that was cool!!!.

i got a wolverine and if ur a MUDDER then go with the rancher but if u like to do it all and mud pretty good then get the wolverine.

I have owned both and loved the suspension on the Wolverine. I'm sure that the Wolverine was faster on top speed(although that shouldn't mean much to most ATV riders). The Honda has a lower center of gravity and is faster on the trails, as well as feeling more comfortable crossing slopes. As previously posted, it depends a lot on what you want out of a 4 wheeler. Mechanically, I had front wheel bearings(RF) go bad on my 97 Wolverine when it was a year old. I rode it pretty hard. The Rancher has been trouble free so far - 6 months. For me, if I had to choose one now, it would be the Rancher.

 

I have a '96 wolverine, and my friend has a '00 rancher. I have ridden both, and here are my conclusions:
Speed- the wolverine is 2 or 3 kph faster on top than the rancher, in a drag he will beat me through the first three gears, but I will catch up and pass him through the next two.
Power- the rancher has noticebly more low end than the wolverine, but not much juice beyond that when compared to the wolverine's mid and top end. So this means if you plan on running larger or more aggressive tires, stick with the rancher.
Suspension- The wolverine is a little harsher at slow speeds than the rancher, they are about even at medium speeds, and the wolverine's suspension seems alot better at high speeds, the rancher's seems to be a little mushy at high speeds.
Genral- stock the rancher is a little better mudder than the wolverine,and has better instrumintation, and is probably more reliable (my friend has near 4000 problem-free miles-no joke!)
The wolverine is a better jumper, has better high speed suspension, a tighter turning radius, and more top end, but the bottom line is to test them both and see which machine suits you best. Yuo can't go wrong with either one!
