I went riding today with my father-in-law and we were doing some fairly slow riding appx 10-12mph and after appx 8 miles I noticed that everytime I came to a stop my atv would die and it wouldn't idle. The fan was on at the time, but I have rode on several rides that were longer and never had a problem.I also checked the oil cooler on both sides for mud and it was clean. I then stopped and waited appx 5minutes and it idled perfectly the rest of the day. My Rancher is pretty new and has just under 300 miles on it. Could it be overheating? I'm also scheaduled to bring it in for its first service. What would explain the problem.........

 

It could be your idle, raise it perpaps?

 

I agree sounds like the idle may be a little low and with the extra electrical draw of the fan it could be enough to stall the engine. If it was really hot out it could also be that the fuel in the bowl of the carb was boiling , did you change to a differant fuel?

 

i'm with the other guys. sounds like your idle speed is a little low. On my last outing my idle speed was WAY HIGH. So high it didn't want to go into first gear (i.e. above 2000 rpm). Easy fix. There is a small black **** on i beleive it is the right side of the quad, just behind the cover for the pullstarter. Turn the **** a little until the idle speed picks up. If you turn it in the wrong direction just go the other way These things were built for easy maintance thank god.

P.S. WARM THE QUAD UP FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES BEFORE YOU ADJUST THE IDLE SPEED. The manual spells out how to adjust the idle speed. Probably in better words than i did....

Know if adjusting the valves were that easy...

Hum...... I went out today and was gonna adjust the idle but it ran perfectly and never died or had a problem all day. Maybe when I bring it in for service and after they set the valves and tune it up the problem will not show up again.
