If It Ain't One Thing, Its Another.. Suggestions Wanted!

Well, I found the transmission that i've been searching for to install into the Scrambler! (2-speed)
Thing is, I have to buy the entire bike to get it. Its a 96 Sportsman 400 that is VERY clean. Only problem is that the piston let go and parked the rod outside the bottom of the crankcase.
I can buy the entire bike for $500.00 (new 2 speed is $749.00)
Question is;
With all the damage that was done to the Scrambler with the pine trees, do I go ahead and build the Scrambler? OR, do I pull the Scrambler engine, modify it like I'm gonna do no matter where it ends up, and slam it into the Sportsman?
Granted, it wouldn't be a H.O.'ed Scrambler with a 2-speed and 28" Outlaws.. BUT, it would be a VERY CLEAN H.O.'ed Sportsman 500 with 28" Outlaws.
The 400 doesn't have the IRS, so thats not a factor. The Scrambler would look sportier and definitely be unique when finished. BUT, at the tune of an extra 500-700 over the finished Sportsman.
Somebody gimme some input...

If it were me I would go with the Scrambler. Reason being that you already have a Magnum for mudding and stuff. The Scram would be a whole new type of ride... No longer a utility but a H.O. Sport with low gear for mudding and stuff!!!
The final decision is obviously yours to make...

Mud,
I wish i would have seen this post earlier. I had a 1996 Sportsman 400, it was a screamer. It stayed with a 1999 Grizzly across the street. If I were you I would most definately repaire the 96 Sp400 and go with it. It is a good bike, easy to mod and snorkel. Hell let me know who has it and I might just buy it if you dont want it.

MUDMACHINE BUILD THE SCRAMBLER!!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT I RIDE WITH A LARGE GROUP (POLARIS & HONDA). MY MACHINE IS LIGHTER & MAKES MORE POWER. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I CAN GET THROUGH THE EXTREME SECTIONS WITH FEW PROBLEMS. YOU ALSO HAVE THE ADVANTAGE NOBODY WILL HAVE ONE JUST LIKE IT.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP.
