Gear ratio for sportsman reverse
#1
Just a simple question: is the gear ratio for reverse on a Sportsman equal to that of low, or is it higher (less torque)? Just wondering for when towing or pulling something, sometimes reverse is a lot easier and offers a much better view, but if low is lower than reverse, I should pull forward.
Not really deserving of its own thread, but it's been bothering me. Plus I felt stupid not posting much lately, most of the talk has been sports quads or 800's. (I know little about either).

I'm not sure which model you are talking about but the info I have from the service manual is for the 700/800 models:
Low: 7.49:1
High: 2.70:1
Reverse: 5.11:1
Front drive: 3.82:1
Rear drive: 3.10:1
Low: 7.49:1
High: 2.70:1
Reverse: 5.11:1
Front drive: 3.82:1
Rear drive: 3.10:1

Thanks, prolly about the same on my 400. Except I think that the 800 has an especially low low gear. I didnt realize it was in the service manual, I havent been able to find mine . Looks like low is a good bit lower than reverse, so I'll stick to pulling forward.
