Air scoops... DO they really work? HOTT Motor!!!
#1
My engine has been running more hot than normal. I went riding today and it was only 38 degrees and the motor felt really hot. Do you think I'm losing it or is yours like this too??? And will air scoops help me at all? And are they easy to install. thanks

I would not dout it. How can I tell should i check my plug? i have a HMF slip-on, 165 jet, K&N filter, i have not done anything with the air-screw and the needle position. I'm not the best with mechanical stuff. How hard would it be to put my needle down one?? thanks for all your help people!

V581 a 400EX is air cooled and does not have a radiatior like you said but it does have an oil cooler and this helps a great deal in cooling the engine. The scoops send more air to the iol cooler.

air scoops help, plus they are a cool place to put more stickers.

the engine builders that i have talked to said don't spend the money unless:
1. you need a place to hold stickers
2. you like the looks of them
they said oil coolers do help though (like the FST cooler), but it isn't anything extremely drastic.

i know the 400ex has that little finned oil cooler, but where the air scoops mount the air isnt directed on them, and is directed on the head of the motor.
the fst oil cooler is nice, but shouldnt be needed, and you also have to tap the head of the motor for it to work, something i dont reccomend doing unless you have the proper tools.
i think scoops help, but as said only if your moving in a straight like, because of the way the air moves. for 40$ i think its worth it.
