Well I don't even have the current SP500 sold and I am already plotting what i will buy with my hard earned money next summer.

It is not what you think though. The machines I am conteplating are very different adn I want your opinions..

2001 Polaris Sportsman 500HO or Kawasaki ZX9R

They are very different, but I got the fever for them both here lately.

SP - Good in the mud
ZX - NOT!

SP - Comfortable on rough trails
ZX - NOT!

ZX - FASTTTT!
SP - fast, but not ZX fast!

ZX - 0-60 MPH in less than 3 seconds
SP - 0-60 MPH a really long time (compared to ZX)

It appears you have the "need for speed". Thats a tough call. Which toy would you use most?

Think of it this way....you can ride the SP500 all year round and make it plow snow, haul wood, haul your deer(if you hunt)...you can't ride the Kawasaki bike in the winter, so it's your choice.

Yes the ZX-9 is a crotch rocket, but one that is comfortable for my large frame and suitable for doing some touring and fun on those 'bendy' roads.

I have always been a motorcycle nut, but I got away from it for awhile. I get the fever to buy one every year, but I put it aside. This time I am having a hard time putting it aside.

I have been to the dealership and started to whittle away a salesman's resistance to giving away a 2000 ZX-9R. We'll have to see what happens when I see the new SP500 HO, maybe it will steal my heart back again.

Been looking at cars too. Selling the truck because with the quad gone I won't need it. The salesman I dealt with yesterday called me a difficult customer. I asked him why and he said "cause you know exactly what you want, what price you want to pay and you know the vehicles"

I guess that left no room for Bul$h1t!

Since Kawasaki is for sure coming out with a 650 V-twin, and I've seen pictures right here in ATV connection magazine, then maybe Polaris WILL
come out with the 700 V-twin Sportsman. Now throw in Electronic Fuel Injection and make it Street Legal.

hey, If I where you I would get both. Just by put a little cash into yours 500sp which the way it sounds the main difference between yours and the Ho is a cam and carb. Heck you could do that and put some nice tires and wheels on yours for alot less then it would cost you to upgrade to the HO. And you could always look at an used bike. heck I know where im from the markets is fludded with everyone trying to sell there bikes right now. and allot of time you can save over half the price by going used. there are alott of nice older zx9 and 900rr's out there. just a thought.

matty

ps I know what its like to be inlove with to expensive hobbies.

I have found 3 ZX-9s for sale in the area used. I like the pre-2000 model better anyway, except for the fact you can't get it in black. There are 2 for $12,000 Can and one for $9800 Can.

Not sure if I should buy it now and wait till summer to ride it (that would be torture) or wait till next summer and buy then. I think the prices will be up next spring though.

I don't like the 900RR. It is not a nice as the ZX-9R. The Yamaha is nice too, but too cramped.

As for the quad I'd want the 500HO. I wouldn't be interested in the 700 or the Kawi 650 (I think) either.

Right now the top thing on my mind is the motorcycle. Everytime I go anywhere in the truck I think this would be a nice drive on a motorcycle!
